We use proven lawn care methods based on the N.O.F.A. "Standards for Organic Lawn Care" and practices developed by
Yard Spice Organics, LLC to treat lawns without the use of toxic pesticides,
herbicides and synthetically produced fertilizers. Our program eliminates the need to use substances that put health at risk
and pollute the environment.
The program includes soil testing to determine the need for amendments required to modify the pH and provide needed soil nutrients.
A site specific program is then put together based on the needs identified in the soil test and the initial lawn care evaluation.
Most lawns in our area require amendments such as lime to raise the pH and organic fertilizers to provide an increase in nutrients
for the plants. Pellitized lime is usually used to raise the pH. Treatments for nutrients consist of
applications of products from Bradfield Organics. These include Luscious
Lawn and Garden 3-1-5 and Luscious Lawn Corn Gluten 9-0-0. All products used in our program are
O.M.R.I. approved to assure that they are safe. Lawns cared for under our program
are always safe for children and pets to play
on immediately following a treatment.
The following additional services can be provided, as needed, based on the initial lawn care evaluation:
Aeration
Compacted soils result in restricted air flow to the roots of grass plants and prevents water
from soaking into the soil. If you find it difficult to press a pencil into your soil, you may need to aerate the soil to
allow air and water to reach the roots of the grass plants in your lawn. We have equipment available for this service.
Dethatching
Thatch consists of decaying plant remnants that build up on top of the soil and reduce
the infiltration of water into the soil. Thatch is considered excessive when it is greater than 1/2 an inch in thickness.
We offer a dethatching service to eliminate the problems associated with excessive thatch.
Beneficial Nematodes
Grubs can be a particularly devastating problem with lawns in our area.
If we find evidence of grub damage on a lawn, we will recommend the use of beneficial nematodes as a means to control the
problem. We perform the applications using Yard Spice's rigorous quality control measures to ensure successful applications.
Overseeding
Overseeding bare spots is an important component of the Organic Lawn Care process.
Seed can be applied in conjunction with a treatment of Luscious Lawn and Garden 3-1-5 or a compost application.
Compost Applications
The addition of organic matter to the soil is one of the most beneficial things you can
do to improve your lawn. A thin layer of compost raked into the lawn as a treatment or in conjunction with overseeding will
result in improvements to moisture retention and nutrient uptake by the plants.
